Rebuilding Together Bergen County is a non-profit organization committed to providing critical repairs to the homes of low- income Americans, including senior citizens, veterans, the disabled and those displaced by natural disaster.

The mission of rejuvenating community and strengthening home life through creating safe and comfortable homes resonates with members of The Allendale Woman’s Club.  The club has an active “Homelife” committee dedicated to assisting friends and neighbors in times of need and has seen first-hand how a small act of support can go a long way.  True to their style of combining fun and friendship to serve the community, the Allendale Woman’s Club looks forward to building a fashion show event that will help Rebuilding Together Bergen County make a difference in our own neighborhoods.

Said event co-chair Lynn Novak, “It’s a perfect opportunity for women to have a great night out while they’re showing support for a cause that revolves around a basic human need.  Women especially understand how a safe home is more than just a shelter.  We’re looking forward to putting the spotlight on “Rebuilding Together Bergen County” as we put together our spring fashion show.

Fashion sub-committee chairs Kristen Tsarnas and Maria Djuric are thrilled to gain the support of local Allendale shop owners Terri Shedler of BackSwing Sporty Boutique and Victoria Digiulio of Bliss Bridal Boutique and Special Occasion in creating the runway show. “It’s truly a case of neighbor helping neighbor. We are excited to be able to bring attention to these fabulous shops both located right here on West Allendale Avenue,” said Kristen Tsarnas.

As the primary beneficiary of the fundraiser, Rebuilding Together Bergen County will receive 50% of the proceeds, with the remaining funds to be designated to assist other local charities and organizations. For additional information, please visit www.allendalewomansclub.org.

News from the Allendale Chamber of Commerce:

The Fire Dept has asked for a CPR class on February 2 for 6-8 members.  It will be at AVAC. Please e-mail Rick Savino @ rjsavino@gmail.com me if you would like to attend – limited seating left.

Cost is $15 for local volunteers, $20 for anyone that does not serve as a volunteer.

A wait list will be started  if this class fills up and more classes will be scheduled as long as there is interest.

The Allendale Police Department would like to alert residents to the recent increase of burglaries in the area. We ask that all residents please remain vigilant to suspicious behavior. If you see a vehicle or person that appears suspicious contact police headquarters at 201-825-1900 or 9-1-1.

The recent increase in burglaries that have been occurring in the area have occurred between the hours of 4:30 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. Burglars tend not to burglarize occupied homes so it is critical to make sure your home looks like it is occupied at all times. Here are some tips to help prevent burglaries.

-         Always leave a few lights on or place them on a timer. A dark home is the best indicator to a burglar if anyone is home or not. A radio on a timer is a great tool to use to prevent a burglary.

-         If your house is alarmed always activate it prior to leaving, even if you will be gone for just a few minutes.

-         If you don’t have motion detectors for the outside of your home invest in them. Place them at a height that a person cannot reach up and unscrew the bulb.

-         Do not keep valuables in the master bedroom in an obvious place. Most burglars will head right to the master bedrooms in a search for valuables.

-         Make sure all doors and windows are locked.

-         Lock your cars at night and don’t leave valuables inside of them.

-         Lastly, if you are going away notify Allendale Police Headquarters at 201-825-1900 that you will be away so we may place you on our vacant house list. We will be sure to keep an extra eye on your home while you are away.

The Friends of the Lee Memorial Library are now offering a Homebound Book Delivery Service to library card holding homebound Allendale residents. Books may be ordered from a large selection of genres and topics such as fiction, best sellers, mysteries, adventure, science fiction, art, non-fiction, etc. Book(s) will be checked out on patron’s card and a member of the Friends will deliver the book(s) to the patron’s home and return them back to the library.

The Allendale Chamber of Commerce is selling Allendale Afghans which depict many of Allendale’s points of interest. They are available at the following locations: Theodora’s Precious Gift Design, Weidner Design Associates, AB&G, Back Swing and Terri O’Connor Realtors. Each afghan is 72″ x 50″, 100% Cotton and made in the USA. Available colors are Kentucky Blue, Cranberry, Navy or Forest Green and the cost is $50.00.  Cash or checks made out to the Allendale Chamber of Commerce will be accepted.
