The two departments that have brought me great fun are Scrapbooking and Membership. In both instances, you get to meet all of the members at a variety of functions. I really do delete those awful digital photos!
And we love you for using that delete button Lynn! You are our favorite photographer…xo
As for my best experience I’d have to say it was working with Ann F. on the Antiques Winter Carnival. Ann is intelligent, calm, funny, dependable and an absolute pleasure to work with! Although it was a lot of work we resurrected a dead fundraiser, had a good time doing it and raised almost $7,000 for the club. But the best part is…I made a dear lifelong friend!
As a brand spanking new member, I don’t know how I became Food Chair for the Holiday Breakfast (probably opened my big mouth)….but there I was quaking in my boots. What the heck was I thinking?
First off, Belinda left one of the most comprehensive files imaginable! There were timetables, reminders, what to expect and when. Then Lani showed up at my house the crack of dawn wielding a huge bagel carving knife and baskets. Hey, this wouldn’t be so bad with a partner like that, huh? All to start the coffee pots which take, I don’t know, and HOUR to brew…who knew?
Just as we stood there watching hungry paying customers arrive – it happened! THE COMMITTEE CAME! I have never seen anything like it before…Joanne R, Belinda, the whole gang knew what to do – thank goodness someone did.
Have I thanked you all enough over the years? I hope so, but if not – THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BEST: Busy Book 2009. After reading the third graders’ writing, it came time to present the collections. Ann and I arrived at the school and were met with such enthusiasm — they couldn’t wait to get their ‘published’ books. Then one little boy raised his hand and asked me what I thought of HIS story. Not quite sure which was his, he pointed it out to me. It was, of course, a fantastic story.
NOT SO MUCH: Fashion Show 2009|Baskets. Having the baskets lined up along the hallway floor, the numbers called from the ballroom in rapid-fire, and frantically searching for baskets #44-on. My apologies to the nice waiter with the silver tray.
My favorite experiences have been working on the board and learning the ins and outs of how the club works and the special bond you have with the board you are on. In addition, The Geranium Sale has always been my favorite because I know I have such a great group of women to help pull off anything – even selling those extra geraniums.
However, I have to admit any committee I have been on with Belinda is a well oiled machine – I think we should have an award at the installation dinner for most organized member every year – she would win!
I’ll go along with the motion for Belinda as the most organized committee member. She was amazing on Socials last year! Organized and Fun! What a combo!
I don’t think I have one favorite experience working on a committee. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each and every time I’ve had the opportunity to work with an AWC member including chairing the Holiday Walk, volunteering time at the Antiques Winter Carnival and Allendale Day, participating in the Memorial Day Parade, TWGS, taking pictures of the beautiful models at the Fashion Show, and selling raffles to all the guests who appeared to be having the time of their life. Of course the past two years as co-president, working with a group of fabulously talented women has made me feel so honored to walk in the footsteps of all the women who have served before me. It’s a big commitment, but an experience I’ve truly enjoyed!
I think I’ve been in the Club long enough to qualify as an old-timer, so I’ve served on A LOT of committees. The now-extinct Family Happenings Committee was a lot of fun. We did a Halloween party at Brighton Gardens for several years, plus Christmas Caroling, and a Harry Potter premier party among other things. However, I’d have to say that so far, Socials has been my favorite committee – planning parties that you HAVE to go to – how bad is that???!!! (Especially now that we get professional help with the cleanup!)

I second Christine’s motion…Belinda is by far the most organized member and deserves a special award…all in favor?????
